Virtual Finance Director

An experienced Finance Director in your corner, from one day a month

Your business has outgrown "the accountant does the year-end". You need someone who reads the numbers every month, tells you what they mean and helps you decide what to do next. That's what we do.

Does this sound familiar?

  • You only really know how the business did when the year-end accounts arrive.
  • Cash is tighter than the profit suggests, and you're not sure why.
  • The bank or an investor is asking for forecasts you don't have.
  • You're making big decisions — hiring, pricing, expansion — on gut feel.
  • You're the person who handles the finances, and it's taking time away from running the business.

Your FD

Your Virtual FD is one of our two partners, Igor Mishnov FCCA ACA, PhD or Nadeem Qureshi FCCA ACA MBA, matched to your business and its sector. You work with the same partner every month, and the other steps in whenever cover is needed.

What we'll do for you

  • ‍Know where you stand. Clear monthly management accounts and a short set of KPIs you'll actually use.‍
  • Control your cash. A rolling 13-week cash flow forecast, so problems show up weeks ahead, not on payday.‍
  • Plan ahead. Annual budgets, scenario models and a plan that turns your ambitions into numbers.‍
  • Improve profit. Pricing, margins and costs reviewed with a commercial eye.‍
  • Deal with the bank and investors. Board packs, lender reporting and covenant monitoring, with FD in the room when it matters.‍
  • Raise finance. Support with debt or equity funding, including SEIS/EIS preparation (see below).

Need the numbers prepared too? Our team at PeterHodgson & Co. can take on your bookkeeping and management accounts, and setup QuickBooks Online (with a permanent 20% licence discount) or Xero. You get one firm for the whole finance function, with no hand-offs between your FD and your accountant.

Raising finance

When you're ready to raise money, we'll prepare the financial side so you can concentrate on the pitch. You lead the conversations with investors and lenders. We make sure the numbers behind them are solid and stand up to scrutiny.

  • An investor-ready financial model with three to five years of projections
  • The financial sections of your business plan and pitch deck
  • An SEIS/EIS eligibility review and HMRC advance assurance application
  • Help with investors' due-diligence questions
  • Post-investment compliance statements and investor reporting

This is preparation and support. We don't introduce investors or arrange investment deals.

How it works

  1. ‍Free 30-minute intro call. A video call to understand your business and goals. We'll explain what information we need for your Health Check.‍
  2. Free Finance Health Check. We review what you send and we meet to go through it. You come away with three clear priorities, whether or not you work with us.‍
  3. Your proposal. We recommend a package or dayrate, plus any add-ons.‍
  4. Month 1: onboarding. We set up access to your systems, agree your KPIs and get to work. On a weekly package, expect your first management pack, cash flow forecast and action plan within the month. Smaller packages start proportionately.‍
  5. Every month after. A steady rhythm of reports, meetings and decisions, scaled up or down as you grow.

The first-month guarantee

If you're not satisfied after your first month, you can leave without completing the 6-month minimum term.

FAQs

What's the difference between my accountant and a Finance Director? Your accountant looks back: accounts, tax and compliance. AFinance Director looks forward: cash, budgets, strategy and funding. At Peter Hodgson & Co., you can have both.

Is £1m turnover the minimum? It's a guide, not a rule. If you're smaller but growing fast or raising finance, let's talk.

Do you need to come to our office? Not necessarily. We work remotely across the UK and meet clients in person across Kent and the South East for the meetings where it counts.

Can you work with our existing bookkeeper or accountant? Yes. We'll oversee and work alongside them. If you'd prefer one firm to handle everything, our team can take it on.

Can we change package later? Yes. You can move up or down as your needs change, once the minimum term is complete.
